Last week we had an interesting meeting with Laurent Chiozzotto, an expert facilitator, for one of our upcoming collaborative workshops. Our client is an association of IT managers which enquires about quick win initiatives on IT budgets. After comparing notes, we decided that it was a great idea to build the sequence of the workshop by combining ‘Double Turn Methodology’ with Stormz features. In this post, we will share this creative Stormz workshop sequence with you.

The Double Turn Methodology of Dominique Fauconnier is based on some successive practices of revolutionary working methods implemented by emerging Japanese companies during the 1980s. When there is a major decision to take, the main idea in the first place is to ask each participant of a meeting to give his opinion in turn, accurately and concisely, without any kind of debate. Then, once the round is ended, it is time to discuss the suggested ideas in an interactive way. Just as in the first round, the order of speaking is fixed in advance so that each participant has the opportunity to express himself without any interruption.

Let’s see how we gained inspiration from the method and adapted it to the “Stormz Way”.

Step 1: 10 min. “Idea Blitz”

Each participant has 10 minutes with the main question. They generate Idea Cards with their names in the first line.

** Step 2: 30 min. Speaking Turn**

Everybody explains and clarifies his/her opinion in turn without any interruption.

Step 3: 5 min. Bet $100

Each participant has $100 to bet in order to select only the best ideas.

Step 4: 10 min. “Pass The Idea” (Potential)

Each attendant writes the potentials for each idea through the lens of the real-life problem.

Step 5: 10 min. “Pass The Idea” (Obstacles)

Each attendant writes the obstacles to each idea in order to reveal possible inadequacies.

5 min. Pause

Step 6: 30 min. Second Speaking Turn

Now it’s time for everybody to give his/her opinion in turn on the liveliest ideas. They listen to the arguments supporting each idea and this allows them to validate or invalidate and adapt them to achieve a good compromise.

Step 7: 5 min. “Multiscore”

Each attendant scores the ideas using the Multi-dimension feature in order to evaluate them accurately and in detail (Multiscore is a Stormz activity that is still in Beta).

Step 8: 30 min. Last Speaking Turn

We will experiment with this sequence for real next week. We’ll get back to you with feedback from the participants.

In the meantime, do not hesitate to integrate Speaking Turns into your Stormz workshops and tell us about it.
